Lucknow boy Shravan wins gold at Federation Cup athletics
LUCKNOW : Young sprinter Shravan Kumar on Thursday brought laurels for the state capital, winning a gold medal in the 1500m event at the Federation Cup Athletics Championship, at the SDAT Sports Complex at Tiruvvannamalai. The boys clocked 3:56.11 seconds to push Haryana’s Vikas to the second spot.
Three other boys from Uttar Pradesh walked away with gold medals on Thursday. Afsar Ahmed in his sixth attempt hurled the iron ball to distance of 63.93 metre to win hammer gold, whereas Ifran clocked 1:51.87 seconds to finish top in the 800m race. Rishabh Nehra won the javelin event gold, hurling the iron rod to distance of 67.40 metre.
Amrita Patel had the first silver for Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, finishing second in the 5000m race, clocking 17:16.49, whereas Rebi Pal clocked 11:10.07 seconds also to win silver medal in girls 3000m steeple chase event. The boys 300m steeplechase event silver medal went to UP’s Suraj pal, who completed the distance in 9:19.96 seconds.
CZ DIVERS SHINE
Divers of hosts Central Zone PAC hogged the limelight in the 58th UP Police Aquatics Championship, winning all three gold medals here on Thursday. Vipnesh Kumar Verma in 10m high board and Krishna Kumar Shukla both in three and one metre spring board won gold medals.
Lucknow Zone swimmers had an easy day in five other events on Thursday. Ram Prakash Rana emerged fastest in the 800m freestyle and 100m butterfly events. Sunil Kumar Yadav bagged 200m freestyle gold, before the team winning the 4x200m freestyle relay. The gold medal in the 200m breast stroke event went to Varanasi Zone’s Deepak Nishad.
MEET POSTPONED
The 17th District Athletics Meet for Under-14 and 16 boys and girls, which was scheduled to be held on Friday, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium has been postponed due to a heavy downpour. District Athletics Association’s secretary, BR Barun informed that due to rain the ground had a huge water logging on Thursday evening. The fresh date of the event would be announced later.

The seniors girls team include Mansi Saini, Ruchi Shakya, Komal Kumari, Muskan Saini, Bhoomi, Ritu Rao, Priyanaka Yadav, Pratigya, Neha Rawat, Nancy, Neehu, Pooja Prajapati, Laxmi, Sadhana Gaur, Rukshar Bano, Sakshi Singh, Sandhya Rawat, Vishakha Kumari, Ambika and Sweta. Shivani Bharti, Anshika Yadav, Sanjana Rawat, Vaishnavi, Julie Singh, Sakshi Shukla, Mahima Jaiswal, Sanobar, Manisha, Jahanvi, Pratima and Pankhuri are picked up in the junior girls team.
