SP TO HOLD GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS, MAY SKIP SESSION
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) has asked all its legislators, former legislators, senior office bearers to participate in the special 150th birth anniversary event that the party has announced on October 2 at the Gandhi statue in Hazratganj in Lucknow.
Party legislators may not participate in the special Vidhan Sabha session that the government has called on the same day. A day before, the Akhilesh Yadav led party will stage a statewide dharna-demonstration against the government over rising prices, corruption, farmer issues, unemployment, law and order, and action by the government against its MP Azam Khan.
State spokesperson of the party Rajendra Chaudhary said that the dharna and demonstration will be peaceful but will emphatically highlight the antipublic policies of the government.
Chaudhary said that the Samajwadi Party had carried out a statewide agitation to wake the state government up over these issues, but the government continues to be in slumber.
At the special event on Gandhi Jayanti at the Gandhi statute in Hazratganj, the party workers with sing and play bhajans (devotional songs), national anthem, and patriotic songs.
"We will also discuss life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and pledge to make his vision for India and its people come true. The event will be replicated at all the district headquarters on the same day."
