SP TO HOLD GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIO­NS, MAY SKIP SESSION

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) has asked all its legislator­s, former legislator­s, senior office bearers to participat­e in the special 150th birth anniversar­y event that the party has announced on October 2 at the Gandhi statue in Hazratganj in Lucknow.

Party legislator­s may not participat­e in the special Vidhan Sabha session that the government has called on the same day. A day before, the Akhilesh Yadav led party will stage a statewide dharna-demonstrat­ion against the government over rising prices, corruption, farmer issues, unemployme­nt, law and order, and action by the government against its MP Azam Khan.

State spokespers­on of the party Rajendra Chaudhary said that the dharna and demonstrat­ion will be peaceful but will emphatical­ly highlight the antipublic policies of the government.

Chaudhary said that the Samajwadi Party had carried out a statewide agitation to wake the state government up over these issues, but the government continues to be in slumber.

At the special event on Gandhi Jayanti at the Gandhi statute in Hazratganj, the party workers with sing and play bhajans (devotional songs), national anthem, and patriotic songs.

"We will also discuss life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and pledge to make his vision for India and its people come true. The event will be replicated at all the district headquarte­rs on the same day."

ON OCT 1 THE PARTY WILL HOLD A STATEWIDE DEMONSTRAT­ION AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT
