Body of terrorist killed in J&K gunfight found

SRINAGAR/JAMMU :Security forces on Tuesday found the body of an unidentifi­ed terrorist in the forest area of Kangan in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of ultras killed in the four-day-old operation to two.

“The body of a terrorist was recovered from Gangabal area [of Ganderbal] where an operation was launched on September 28,” an Army official said.

The toll of the terrorists killed in the operation has now gone up to two, he said. One terrorist was killed in the firefight with security forces on September 28.

The official said while the identity and group affiliatio­n of the slain ultras was not yet known, they were both believed to be Pakistan nationals.

In another developmen­t, in Jammu, security forces recovered over 15 kg of gunpowderl­ike substance from a bus near the bus stand in the morning, officials said. Inspector general of police Mukesh Singh said, “We are still investigat­ing the matter. We are not sure if the confiscate­d material is actually explosive or not. We are investigat­ing its origin as well. There is no FSL [Forensic Science Laboratory] report as yet regarding the substance.”

There had been three grenade attacks by terrorists at the Jammu bus stand between May last year and March this year.

The IGP said that the driver and conductor of bus, which was coming from Billawar Tehsil of Kathua district, were being questioned.
