LUCKNOW: Locals and family members staged protest after a 55-year-old guard of a private security agency died in mysterious circumstances while on duty at the city bus workshopcum-depot in Vibhuti Khand police station limits here on Sunday morning, cops said.

Police said the family alleged harassment by the security agency authorities as the reason for the guard’s death. They said the protest ended after the guard’s family members were assured of stern action against the culprits and asked to register a formal complaint in the matter.

Inspector of Vibhuti Khand police station Rajeev Dwivedi said the guard, Lalit Sharma, a resident of Sector 16, Indira Nagar, had reported on duty at the city bus workshop at around 7 am. The workshop employees said that he fainted and slumped on the floor when he was writing something while sitting in a chair in his room at around 9 am. He said the guard was rushed to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he succumbed during treatment.

Dwivedi said the family members started accusing the security agency owner when they reached the hospital after being informed about the guard’s death. He said they even staged protest at the workshop and did not allow sending the body for autopsy for over five hours.

He said the body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death after assuring the family of proper investigation in the matter. He said so far the family had not lodged any FIR in this connection.
