Case registered after mother writes to SP; SHO shunted to lines

VARANASI :Maniyar police station officer Subhash Yadav has been sent to the lines on Monday after the mother of a rape victim accused him of derelictio­n of duty and not taking action against the accused, a senior police officer said.

According to the police, the woman said that on September 10 evening, her teenage girl (15) had gone to attend the call of nature in the fields in outskirts of the village, in Maniyar police station area of Ballia district.

A boy (15) of the village outraged the modesty of the girl. After returning home, the girl informed her mother.

Then the woman filed a complaint with the police at Maniyar police station.

Police said that the mother of the girl alleged that the station officer pressured them for a compromise. He also took her thumb impression on a plain paper.

The woman also sent a letter to the superinten­dent of police Ballia. The letter went viral on social media on Monday. SP Ballia Devendra Nath Dubey reached the police station and sought informatio­n about the matter.

Circle officer Bansdih Ashok Singh said, “A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC following a complaint by the victim’s mother. The station officer has been sent to the reserve police lines for alleged derelictio­n on his part in taking action in the matter and the victim has been sent for a medical examinatio­n.”
