GP Eleven win thriller; enter semis of Independen­ce Trophy

UCKNOW : GP Eleven marched into the semi-finals of the 1st Independen­ce Trophy, notching up a thrilling two-wicket win against Minis Stadium (Rajajipura­m), at the North Eastern Railway Stadium here on Monday.

Needing 119 to win in 35 overs, GP Eleven reached home in 26.5 overs but not without going through many ups and downs.

They were seven down for 90 in 22.4 overs, but it was Vaibhav Vishwakarm­a, who remained unbeaten on 33, which came off 38 balls with the help of three boundaries.

Opener Himanshu Varshney (24, 40b, 1x4, 1x6) and Karan Upadhyay (21, 16b, 3x4) also played crucial roles to fashion team’s thrilling win.

Aditya Priyadarsh­i remained the most successful bowler for the losers, bagging 5/22, whereas Samarth Sinha, Inder and Saurabh shared three wickets between them.

Earlier, Anirudh Singh’s 37-ball 53, which contained two boundaries and five sixes, helped the Mini Stadium score 118 in 28.1 while batting first after winning the toss. For GP Eleven, Pradeep Verma took 3/23, whereas Rashid, Aamir and Karan took two wickets each.

FINE SHOW

Taekwondo exponents of Lucknow staged a fine show to finish runners-up at the State Championsh­ip at Ghaziabad, winning 10 gold, five silver and eight bronze medals. The medal winners, included Fabiha Hazfeez, Sharda Kumari, Komal Dewakar, Jagriti Maggu, Aditi Shukla, Khalida Husain, Sheikh Raksha Zameel, Sheik Bilal, Usman, Jameel, Poorav Shukla, Anvita Kashyap, Suryansh Srivastava, Prereti Gautam, Manish Sharma, Samar, Ansh Kanojiya, Adeeb, Vaishnavi Sharma, Prambh Singh and Arzzoo Kumari.
