KANPUR: Buoyed by its victory in the recently held Hamirpur assembly by-poll, the BJP is all set to adopt the same strategy in Govind Nagar (in Kanpur) and Manikpur (in Chitrakoot) assembly seats in the by-poll on 11 UP assembly seats scheduled on October 21.

An 11-member core team spent two weeks before the polling in Hamirpur where it went door-to-door meeting people more than once.

“It has been decided that this team will play a key role in Govind Nagar and Manikpur. This was discussed threadbare in the Kanpur-Bundelkhand region meeting,” said a party leader. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh have decided to implement the working pattern of Hamirpur team led by Ashok Katariya in the rest of seats. Katariya is minister of transport in the UP government, BJP general secretary and in charge of Kanpur-Bundelkhand region. Apart from him other minister Dhunni Singh of Fatehpur and regional president Manvendra Singh are also part of the team.

The BJP has fielded its city unit president Surendra Maithani, a Brahmin, from this Brahmin dominated seat.

The seat had fallen vacant after the party asked its sitting MLA Satyadeo Pachauri to contest the Kanpur Lok Sabha that he won. Pachauri was a third time MLA from the seat. The Congress has fielded young Karishma Thakur, a former NSUI office bearer. The Samajwadi Party also has chosen a young candidate Samrat Vikas and the BSP has made Devi Tiwari, scion of one oldest families of Kanpur and close relative of senior party leader Satish Chandra Mishra, its candidate from the Govind Nagar assembly seat .
