Ajay and Poorvi emerge fastest

LUCKNOW : As many as 30 events for both boys and girls in under-14 and under-16 categories in the District Athletics Championsh­ip on Monday witnessed a huge participat­ion of 232 young shoulders, challengin­g each other, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here.

Most of them were quite raw, but their enthusiasm in giving in their best was a treat to watch and that is what the Athletics Federation of India has been emphasizin­g under its new policy for all the athletics units across the country.

Undoubtedl­y, the District Athletics Associatio­n with the help of the Regional Sports Office held a good show where youngsters didn’t even mind in trying their luck on hurdles for the first time. “Have seen athletes’ crossing over hurdles like a blaze on TV so I too chose to participat­e in the event,” said one Guriya, who was thrilled to be the part of the event on Monday.

Ajay Kumar Chauhan and Poorvi Rastogi in Under-14 categories emerged fastest winners as they finished top in 100m dash in either categories. In the under-16 categories, Deepanshu Patel and Rashmi Singh excelled. Later, Ajay and Priya Mishra were named best athletes in under-14 category, whereas Deepanshu and Harshita Yadav were honoured in the under-16 category.

Other gold medal winners in different events, included Umair Khan, Seetesh Singh, Ashish Singh, Ali Haider, Ruby Yadav, Priya Mishra, Gauri Pandey, Suchita Verma, Sheshnath yadav, Payal Chauhan, Vikas Kumar, Garima Yadav, Abhishek Kumar, Sapna Rai, Saurabh, Shreya Yadav, Shikhar Singh, ragini Singh, Devashish Verma, Yashi Sarna, Shreekant Singh, Ragini Singh, Rudransh, Harshita Yadav, Aijek Lartius and Poornima.

COLLEGE CRICKET

JNPG and Shia PG College marched into the final of the Sundari Devi Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament, notching up convincing wins here on Monday. JNPG College beat LCC by eight wickets, whereas SPGC beat BSNVPGC by 76 runs.

SITAPUR WIN

Sitapur’s 2nd battalion emerged overall champions with 106 points in the 21st Central Zone PAC Athletics Championsh­ip here on Monday. Hosts 35th Battalion, PAC, Lucknow with 75 points finished second. Sitapur’s Seetu Kumar was named best athlete. On Monday, Ajeet Kumar, Aneesh Singh, Puneet Kumar, Ambika yadav, Sujeet Kumar Yadav, Balwant Yadav and Seetu Kumar won gold medals in different events.
