ALERT AFTER 5 SUSPICIOUS MEN ‘SPOTTED’ IN GKP

ATS, STF asked to look into the facts mentioned in a letter and check their gravity

LUCKNOW : Security has been beefed up on the India-Nepal border in the wake of an alert about spotting of five suspicious men at some distance from Nakaha Jungle railway station in Gorakhpur and conversing about an alleged terror plot. UP director general of police (DGP) OP Singh said the facts mentioned in the October 14 alert issued by the railway protection force of divisional security commission­er, Samastipur, Bihar, were being verified.

LUCKNOW: Security has been beefed up on the India-Nepal border in the wake of an alert about spotting of five suspicious men at some distance from Nakaha Jungle railway station in Gorakhpur and conversing about an alleged terror plot.

Giving this informatio­n, UP director general of police (DGP) OP Singh said the facts mentioned in the October 14 alert issued by the railway protection force (RPF) of divisional security commission­er, Samastipur, Bihar, were being verified.

He said the state agencies like the Anti Terror Squad (ATS) and the Special Task Force (STF) had also been asked to look into the facts mentioned in the letter and check their gravity. “Although we have not found anything concrete related to the matter, police officials have been asked to stay alert to counter any type of anti-national or terror activities,” he said.

A senior police official privy to the developmen­ts said the alert by RPF official was issued on the basis of the informatio­n provided by a local who overheard the conversati­on of five men near Ankit Service Centre at some distance from Nakaha Jungle railway station on September 16.

He said the alert reads that the five men aged between 35 and 45 years were heard having some suspicious conversati­on. “Iss baar Deepawali kaafi damakhedaa­r hogi poora Hindustan dekhenga aur yaad rakhenga (This Deepawali will be explosive. The entire country will watch and remember it),” said the official while sharing the content of the conversati­on mentioned in the alert.

He said the alert also described the physical appearance and clothes the suspicious men were wearing. Four men were wearing ‘kurta pyjama’ and one was wearing ‘kurta’ and ‘jeans’.

He said three were sporting beard while two were clean shaved and one had cut marks on his left cheek. They all were stated to be travelling in a car, he added.

In addition to the alert letter, the official said the suspicious men further talked about visiting Nepal and returning for a meeting in New Delhi on October 17. The meeting was also stated to be attended by some people from Kashmir.

He said the alert dated October 5 was first circulated to the district magistrate­s and superinten­dents of police of Bihar’s 15 districts and two SP (railways) of Bihar region.

He said the same letter dated October 14 was circulated further to intensify vigil and beef up security apprehendi­ng terror threat.
