Rape accused convicted in 10 days

LUCKNOW: In yet another case of speedy justice to a minor rape victim, a POCSO court in Rae Bareli has awarded life imprisonme­nt to a rape accused in 10 working days.

Vijay Pal, special judge of POCSO court, on Wednesday convicted Ram Milan Lodhi, 30, of raping a six-year old minor and sentenced him to life imprisonme­nt. The court also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the accused.

While the investigat­ing officer in the case had filed the chargeshee­t in six days, the court also completed hearing and delivered the judgment in 10 working days.

According to reports, Lodhi had raped a minor girl when she was alone at home on September 17. Police complaint was lodged on September 18. Cops arrested Lodhi on September 19. After recording victim’s statement, her mother and six witnesses, cops filed the chargeshee­t on September 23.

Taking serious note of the offence, circle officer, Maharajgan­j, Vineet Singh moved court seeking to fast track the case.

“Speedy justice to a minor rape victim will restore faith and trust of common man on the police. The investigat­ing officer acted with alacrity and filed the chargeshee­t in six days. The court also fast tracked the hearing and awarded life imprisonme­nt to accused in 10 working days,” said Swapnil Mamgain, superinten­dent of police, Rae Bareli.

Additional advocate general, Uttar Pradesh government, Vinod Kumar Shahi said: “Speedy conviction­s of minor rape accused will instil fear of law among perpetrato­rs. Fast track conviction­s will send a message to people to come forward and help in conviction of such criminals.’
