Vijayantkhand trainees shine in AITA event
LUCKNOW:Both the trainees at the Vijayantkhand Stadium, Siddharth Yadav and Anshuman Singh on Thursday set up a title clash in the boys under-16 category of the 19th Eldeco Cup AITA Championship Series, notching up contrasting wins, at the SDS Tennis Academy here.
Trained by NIS coach Vijay Pathak, third seeded Siddharth Yadav outplayed eight seed Vikesh Churasiya in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, whereas second seed Anshuman Singh beat Pranav Kumar 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
The girls under-16 final will be played between Yati Singh and Shagun Kumari. On Thursday, top seeded Yati brushed aside Diva Bhatiya 6-2, 6-3, whereas third seed Shagun beat second seed Sasa Katiyar 6-2, 6-3.
There was some surprise outcome in the boys under-14 singles as fourth seed Arjun Sharma beat top seed Pushshkal Srivastava of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-1 in the first semi-final, whereas Madav Prakash defeated eight seed Aniket Srivastava 6-1, 6-1.
In the only semi-final of the girls under-14, top seeded Shagun Kumari beat sixth seed Vaishanavi
Lodhi 6-0, 6-1.
GALAXY TROPHY
As many as eight teams, including four from outside the state, would be seen in action in the 1st All India Sports Galaxy Trophy, starting Friday, at the Jaipuria Cricket Ground here.
Organising secretary, Tejas Mehrotra informed that LDA Coaching Centre, Akhil Infra Cricket Club, Allahabad Cricket Association, Hari Singh CA (Ghaziabad), KG Colts (Delhi), Sound Images Club, MD Sporting
Club (Bengal) and UP Timber Club.
The final is slated for October 25. All the matches will be of 40 over’s, minimum 16 over’s will constitute a match. The tournament offers Rs 1 lakh for the winners, Rs 50,000 to the runners-up.
WEIGHTLIFTING MEET
Dilip Rajpoot of Ramadheen Singh College won boys under-17 gold in the 49kg category at the District Secondary Schools Weightlifting Championship, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Thursday. Other gold medal winners of the day included, Anshu, Rajkumar Gupta, Zaid, Shahrukh and Aman Yadav.
SELECTION TRIALS
Selection of the junior girls hockey at district and regional levels will be held on Friday and Saturday, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here at 2.00 p.m. Selected team would participate in the state tournament, scheduled to be held at Etawah from November 1.
