IRCTC to refund passengers as Tejas Exp delayed

LUCKNOW : The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporatio­n (IRCTC) that is running the Tejas Express has announced a refund to passengers after the Delhi-bound premium train (82501) got delayed by almost 3 hours on Saturday.

Officials with IRCTC, a subsidiary of Indian railways, termed it a historical moment as never in the history of railways any refund has been initiated for delay.

“Since the train got delayed for 2 hours 47 minutes, we are initiating a refund as per our return policy to all the onboard train passengers,” said Ashwini Srivastava, chief regional manager Lucknow, IRCTC.

On Saturday, the train that originates from Lucknow, started at around 8:57 am about 2 hours and 47 minutes behind its schedule of 6:10am. By the time, the train reached Delhi it got late by 3 hours and 15 minutes.

IRCTC officials said the delay was caused due to derailment of Krishak Express in yard area as it was heading towards Lucknow Junction.

What does the return policy say?

As per the refund policy, which the IRCTC had announced during the inaugural run of Tejas Express, if the train gets delayed for more than one hour and upto two hours, amount of ₹100 would be refunded.

If the train gets delayed by more than 2 hours, ₹250 would be refunded. An IRCTC official said IRCTC’s insurance company would forward a link on the mobile phones of all the onboard passengers. “To claim the refund, they have to click the link and follow the instructio­ns,” the official added.
