KGMU suspends senior faculty; sacks another for misconduct

-

LUCKNOW: The executive council of the KGMU on Saturday decided to suspend a senior faculty facing charges of misusing university fund and terminate services of another faculty facing charges of misconduct during pre-medical test held in 2014. This person was already under suspension.

“Prof Ashish Wakhlu of the department of paediatric surgery was suspended for not cooperating in the inquiry against him being conducted by a disciplinary committee constituted by the university administration,” said the press statement issued by the university after the meeting.

When contacted, Prof Wakhlu challenged the inquiry committee and said it was made and functioned against the applicable rules. “In this case, the university has violated the court directives. I have been suspended for not cooperating in the inquiry but as per the executive council meeting agenda the inquiry is completed,” he said.

The agenda of the executive council states ‘to discuss the disciplinary proceedings and recommendations off the disciplinary committee constituted against professor Ashish Wakhlu. Sealed report will be opened in the meeting,’ which meant that the inquiry procedure had been completed, he said.

During suspension period, Prof Wakhlu shall remain attached with dean (medicine) office, subject to pending inquiry. He was entitled to subsistence allowance, said the order from the office of the vice Chancellor.

Another resolution passed was to terminate services of Dr KP Singh, who was facing charges since 2014 and was under suspension. Dr Singh could not be contacted for his version despite repeated attempts.
