Women’s education never goes waste, says UP minister
LUCKNOW: A seminar on legal rights of Muslim women was organised by RannSamar Foundation here on Saturday.
Speakers at the seminar discussed at length several issues, including triple talaq, its criminalisation and legal status of ‘nikah halala.
The event also witnessed the launch of an Urdu version of book— ‘Stree Dasha Aur Disha’, penned by Abha Singh, president of RannSamar Foundation. The Urdu version of the book, which is based on women’s rights under the law, has been translated by Mansoor Hasan Khan.
Addressing the seminar, secretary and director general, ministry of culture and tourism, Jitendra Kumar urged Muslim women to become self reliant and self dependent. Besides, he emphasised on the importance of education.
He said, “Women’s education never goes waste”.
Giving an example of Abha Singh’s mother, who was married at very young age and struggled a lot, Kumar said, “She ensured that her aspirations were fulfilled through her children who went on to get important positions in bureaucracy.”
The programme also witnessed a session in which some Muslim women came forward and shared their experiences on triple talaq and how they dealt with the issues related to it. Some women said that how Abha Singh’s book helped them in gaining strength and fight back in time of need, besides how it made them aware about their rights under the law.
The discussion was moderated by Dr Sabra Habib, a professor of Russian language at Lucknow University. YP Singh, Fazle Imam, Sharid Rudaulvi and others were also present.
