NOIDA: The Noida authority on Sunday said it has issued a tender to select a private contractor who can resurface the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway that connects Delhi with the 165km long Yamuna Expressway.

The authority expects to finish all formalities and select a private firm in the next two months, paving way for resurfacing of the crucial link road between Noida and Greater Noida, officials said.

“The resurfacing work on Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is expected to begin by February 2020. The authority is likely to hire a private firm in the next two months so that the work on the ground can start,” Vijay Rawal, project engineer of the Noida authority, said.

Authority officials said as per the deadline fixed in the tender terms and conditions, the resurfacing work will be finished in eight months. The estimated cost of the project is ₹55 crores.

The authority has decided to resurface the expressway after it realised that the stretch had developed cracks and potholes posing hindrances for commuters. A 20km long stretch of the 25km long Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is in Noida and the remaining stretch is in Greater

Noida.

“We will resurface the 20km stretch in Noida. As the Greater Noida stretch is in a better condition , the Greater Noida authority can decide when they want to resurface it,” a Noida authority official, not authorized to speak to the media, said.

According to the traffic police, over 1.5 lakh motorists use the Noida-Greater Noida expressway daily. An average of two to three fatal accidents (excluding minor ones which are often unreported) occur monthly on the stretch due to various reasons.

The Noida authority had in January hired Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) that said that resurfacing is crucial for smooth flow of traffic on this busy road. This six-lane expressway sees heavy vehicular movement, particularly during peak traffic hours.
