Bowlers’ put AICC into Galaxy Trophy final

LUCKNOW:Bowlers put their best foot forward to help local outfits Akhil Infra Cricket Club (AICC) beat Ghaziabad’s Hari Singh Cricket Academy (HSCA) by four wickets to make it to the final of the 1st All India Sports Galaxy Trophy, at the Jaipuria School Ground here on Sunday.

Akshdeep Nath took 4/8, whereas Sandeep Yadav (3/10) and Vipin Chandra (2/13) shared five wickets between them to skittle out HSCA for paltry 46 in 23.3 overs after the losers chose to bat first after winning the toss.

In reply, AICC despite losing two quick wickets for just six in three overs, romped home in 17.1 overs at the loss of six wickets. Upendra Yadav struck highest 17, which came off 42 balls with the help of two hits to the fence.

CONTRASTIN­G WINS

It was a day of contrastin­g wins in the CB Gupta Amit Singh Chauhan Trophy Cricket Tournament here on Sunday. Mumtaz PG College defeated Aryavart College by 90 runs to make it to the quarterfin­als, whereas National PG College beat Sherwood College by 13 runs.

FINE SHOW

Hosts Uttar Pradesh swimmers continued to make their presence felt at the National Masters Aquatics here on Sunday, winning two gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.

Rajesh Kumar Kanojiya and Lakhan Lal Arora walked away with gold medals in different categories, Lakhan Lal Arora, Ramesh Chandra Nishad, Satya Prakash Yadav, Neha Chandel, Indra Dutt Sharma, Prakash Awasthi and Harshita Pandey had silver medals.

Mohini Nishad bagged two bronze on the third day of the championsh­ip on Sunday, whereas Bhupendra Upadhyay and Vanya Chandel too shared two bronzes between them.

DEEP EXCELS

Deep Kumar Singh emerged victorious on the basis of the tiebreak in the Sunday Open Chess Tournament here. Anuj even with five points had to settle with second spot, whereas Anhsuman finished third. In the under-7 category, Pranav Rastogi finished top, whereas in the under-10 and under-16 categories, Akshat Abhinav and Akshat Bhatnagar stood top.

BATHAM WINS

Pawan Batham finished top in the open category of the 1st Christ Church College District Open Chess Tournament. DPS, Eldeco lifted the winners trophy in the team championsh­ip, pushing Excellia School to the second spot. Vamsi Krishna in under-16 and Aryan Pandey in under-12 also finished top in the resp[ective categories. In the Christ Church College category Arihant Shukla emerged champ. Sameer Khan and Akshat Srivastava stood second and third, respective­ly.

DOUBLE DELIGHT

It was a double delight for both Shiraj, Om Prakash as well as Abhay Upadhya of Bareilly as the trio won a golden double in the UP State Open Powerlifti­ng, Bench Press and Dead Lift Championsh­ip, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Sunday.
