THREE SEATS IN UP, TWO IN MAHARASHTRA BUOY SP CHIEF
LUCKNOW: After his party won three seats in UP Assembly bypolls and two in Maharashtra assembly polls, the Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav congratulated voters and the party cadre for working “towards saving the democracy”.
The Samajwadi Party retained Rampur Sadar and won Zaidpur and Jalalpur assembly seats in UP. In Maharashtra, the party’s state president Abu Asim Azmi won the MankhurdShivajinagar seat and Raes Sheikh won the Bhivandi East seat. The Bahujan Samaj Party could not win a seat in UP or Maharashtra.
In a statement, soon after results were out, Akhilesh said: “The Samajwadi Party had held only one among the in 11 assembly seats where bypolls were conducted. The party won three seats in UP and two in Maharashtra. I congratulate the voters and party cadre on working towards saving democracy.”
He congratulated Tazeen
Fatima on winning Rampur, Shubhash Rai for Jalalpur, Gaurav Rawat for Zaidpur, Abu Asim Azmi for Mankhurd-Shivajinagar and Raes Sheikh for Bhivandi East.
Akhilesh Yadav said: “Now, Uttar Pradesh will run on the philosophies of Mahatama Gandhi, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Dr BR Ambedkar. Corruption, rowdyism, dishonesty, casteism, and politics of religion won’t work. The SP will continue to do politics of development.” Akhilesh said: “The BJP had used pressure to win bypolls in UP. It had implicated SP leaders and workers in cases and the police were after some senior SP leaders. There was no constituency where the chief minister did not visit and even said the opposition will be taught a lesson. It misused the government and administrative machinery for elections.”Akhilesh Yadav said Tazeen Fatima won in Rampur, despite all kinds of pressure.
