CONTEMPT CASE: HC TAKES AMETHI DM INTO CUSTODY

LUCKNOW:The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Tuesday took the district magistrate of Amethi Prashant Sharma into custody in a contempt case after securing his presence in the court.

On the directions issued byJustice Chandra Dhari Singh, Sharma had reached the court at around 4 pm and remained in custody till the rising of the court.

He also tendered opology for not complying with the court’s earlier order properly.

The court passed the order in a contempt petition filed by one Dr Ram Pratap Singh.

According to the petitioner’s counsel Rajendra Pratap Singh, earlier the writ court on January 11, 2019 had directed the DM to take a decision on a complaint made against a village pradhan within six weeks but the DM did not comply with the order, following which the petitioner filed a contempt petition.

The court had then directed to file an affidavit of compliance of the order and warned the DM shall remain present before it if this was not done, the counsel said.

At the time of hearing, neither affidavit of compliance was filed nor the DM appeared. Then the court directed to ensure the DM’s presence before it on Tuesday.

As per the order, the district magistrate appeared in the court and by order of the court remained there in custody till rising of the court. The court directed him to produce the affidavit of compliance till 5 pm, the counsel said.
