“Country and the state can be happy only when its farmers are happy,” said the CM while addressing a group of farmers at a programme organised by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on Deen Dayal Upadhyay University campus.

He claimed that the long-pending ‘Ban Sagar’ Dam project, which was recently inaugurated by the prime minister, has been benefitting farmers in irrigation of fields.

Enlisting the steps taken to improve the income of farmers, the chief minister said that the dues of farmers are being cleared and their produce, including wheat and paddy, are being purchased at minimum support prices (MSP). “The government was planning to set up farmer produce organizations (FPOs), which deals with business activities related to farm produce, at each of the 823 blocks in the state, and later at every gram panchayat in,” said the chief minister.

He also congratulated NABARD for their role in promotion and nurturing of FPOs in the state. Chief general manager, NABARD, UP Regional Office Shankar A. Pande informed about the initiatives of NABARD for FPO promotion during the last three years.

The CM further asked the farmers to take up allied jobs with farming like rearing of cows to earn extra income.

He reiterated that the government will also pay Rs 900 yearly to those who choose to own and rear an abandoned bovine under Nirashrit Pashu Yojna.“We are also ensuring that stray cattle do not damage the standing crops of farmers.

For this, we have built shelter house for abandoned animals across state where we have put over 0.35 million bovines,” he said. State agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi claimed over 2.3 million farmers have been benefitted this year by different schemes launched by government.
