CHANDIGARH : A 47-year-old man tried to kill himself by jumping in front of the train after allegedly murdering his wife and two children at their house in the Housing Board Complex of Manimajra locality here, police said on Thursday.

Police said Sanjay Arora, the owner of Krishna Dairy in Sector 9, Panchkula, suffered serious injuries after he jumped in front of the train after which he was rushed to the General Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, from where he was referred to PGIMER.

When calls to inform the family members went unanswered, PGIMER staff called up Karamveer Singh, one of his colleagues, on Wednesday night, requesting him to inform the family.

When Karamveer went to the house, he was shocked to find the three bodies lying in a pool of blood.

He called the police immediately.

“Sanjay is the prime suspect, but we are verifying the facts. The motive and other details will become clear once we question him. He is presently unfit to give statement,” is what senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nilambari Jagadale had said after the incident..

Sanjay allegedly stabbed his wife Savita, 45, to death on Wednesday afternoon. He waited for his son Arjun, 16, a Class 10 student. He stabbed Arjun when he returned from school. Later, he killed his daughter, Sanchi, 21, a law student. After killing his family, Sanjay tried to commit suicide by jumping before a train, police said.

A suicide note was found in the house. Police investigations say Arora was under debt and depressed because of his financial condition.
