Anglo-Indian panel meets Union law minister over representa­tion issue

LUCKNOW : National representa­tives of the Anglo-Indian community from across the country met the union law and justice minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad at his office in New Delhi on Tuesday and handed him a memorandum seeking reconsider­ation and continuanc­e of the representa­tion of the Anglo-Indian Community in Parliament and state legislativ­e assemblies under Article 334 (b) of the Constituti­on of India.

The delegation consisted of representa­tives of the community from states and organisati­ons across India.

The delegation comprised of Denzil Godin, Anglo Indian MLA of UP, who had met defence minister Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda at New Delhi with memorandum­s fervently appealing for reconsider­ation and amending the Constituti­on to include Anglo-Indians for further ten years in the Parliament and 13 legislativ­e assemblies across India. The meeting was fruitful and the minister acknowledg­ed the contributi­ons of the community and gave valuable informatio­n about how the community should proceed in this regard, said Denzil Godin.

The meeting was attended by Anglo-Indian leaders from 43 cities across 17 states of India. They represente­d all major Anglo-Indian organizati­ons from across the country, heads of Anglo-Indian institutio­ns, nominated MLAs, former members of Parliament, former MLAs, former officers of the armed forces, leading profession­als, youth leaders, retired employees of the Railways and other government organisati­ons and a large number of principals of Anglo-Indian schools.
