KOLKATA: Rain and bad light on Wednesday led to 9.3 overs in 53 minutes being possible on the third day of the Group A Ranji Trophy tie between Bengal and Delhi at Eden Gardens here. This was the third time in three games at Eden in 2019-20 that conditions had interrupted cricket.

Resuming on overnight score of 192/6, Delhi, chasing Bengal’s total of 318 all out for the first innings lead, were 217/7 when poor light stopped play on a grey day. Wet outfield due to early morning rain had to the first session being cancelled.

In conditions ideal for pace bowling when play began at 12:30pm, Delhi wicket-keeper Anuj Rawat thwarted left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed’s bid for a second successive hattrick. Ahmed was replaced by Mukesh Kumar and he trapped Rawat leg-before with his third ball. Brief scores: Bengal 318 vs Delhi 217/7 (D Shorey 65, J Sidhu 49 *)
