PG STUDENT GANG RAPED

MEERUT : A 21-year-old post graduate student of a Meerut university has alleged that she was abducted and gang-raped by four men while she was on her way to home in Hapur from college on Thursday.

MEERUT: A 21-year-old postgradua­te student of a Meerut university was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by four men while she was on her way home in Hapur district from college on Thursday, said officials here on Saturday.

According to Garh Mukhteshwa­r deputy superinten­dent of police Tejveer Singh, when the student did not reach home until late in the evening, her family informed police about it.

Taking action on the complaint, the police traced her mobile phone and rescued her from Siyana in Bulandshah­r district.

“She has been admitted to a medical college in a critical condition. However, her condition is stable,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, inspector general of police (IG) , Meerut zone, Praveen Kumar said, “During investigat­ion, it was found that the woman went with her classmate on her own. She got injured after falling from a bike. Rape has not been confirmed in the medical report. This is not a case of kidnapping or gangrape.”

However, casualty medical officer, Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut, Dr Harshvardh­an said, “Initial medical examinatio­n only helps in identifyin­g whether a girl has been raped or not but its confirmati­on needs further lab testing which takes two to seven days.”

Enraged over the IG’s statement, a large number of the university students gathered outside his office and staged protest on Saturday.

“How can cops jumped to conclusion so quickly?,” the students asked.

They also demanded a thorough investigat­ion into the case. They also raised slogans like ‘we want justice’ and ‘Hyderabad part 2’.

However, the inspector general of police said main accused had been rounded up and interrogat­ion was underway to know facts about the incident.

Police said her father had lodged a case of gang-rape in Garh Mukteshwar police station under sections 365, 376-D, 323 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code. He named Priyanshu Sharma, Aakash, Dev and Soni in the FIR for abducting and raping her daughter.

However, the mother of the prime accused Priyanshu claimed that the PG student had an affair with her son.

Meanwhile, the victim’s brother and father alongwith other kin met IG range of Meerut Praveen Kumar.

Her brother said the police informed them about the arrest of all four accused named in the case.

As per the FIR lodged in connection with the incident , police recovered the girl from a house of in a village in Syana area.

She explained about the incident to her father and said that she was abducted from Garh Mukteshwar and taken to the house of Priyanshu.

“He along with Dev, Aakash and Soni raped her and assaulted when she resisted them,” her father alleged.

Police reached the village along with girl’s family members and rescued the girl from Priyanshu’s home. She was badly beaten and lower portion of her body was covered with a jute sack, police said.

As per the woman’s family members, she was returning by bus to her home in Hapur district on Thursday evening after completing her classes.

On way the bus, she was travelling in developed some snag and she called her father that she would reach home late.

When she did not reach till evening, her parents tried her phone to know her location but she didn’t respond.

After failing to reach her despite several attempts, family members approached Garh police and requested to trace the location of the girl’s phone.
