LUCKNOW: Two con men posing as cops struck again in the state capital as they duped a 50-year-old woman of her ornaments worth several thousands of rupees by scaring her of falling prey to criminals in Daliganj under Hasanganj police station in the city.

Police said the incident took place on February 10 (Monday) but the woman lodged an FIR in this connection on Saturday. Notably, as many as 14 incidents of fake cops duping women of their belongings by adopting the same modus operandi have been reported in Lucknow city since December 2017.

Providing details of the latest incident, sub inspector of Hasanganj police station Vijay Singh said the impostors narrated a false story to the woman of miscreants robbing her ornaments. He said they disappeared with the woman’s ornaments by replacing them with fake ones by playing the trick.

He said the incident occurred when the woman Rama Mishra, a resident of Qutubpur, Daliganj was going to purchase medicine at around 3.30 pm on Monday. The woman told the police that two people riding on a bike intercepted her few meters away from

her house, asking to cover her ornaments as criminals were on prowl in the area and she could fell prey to them, SI informed.

Later, the woman removed her rings, ear rings and gold chain and wrapped them in a paper after the imposters asked her to do so. The conmen returned the paper packet, in which she had wrapped her ornaments but at her home, she found that the ornaments were replaced with stones.

The sub-inspector said the police had retrieved video footage of the suspects from a CCTV installed on the same stretch and trying to trace them.
