LUCKNOW: Two murders created a sensation in the Old City on Saturday afternoon. In the first incident, the blood -soaked body a 44-year-old woman with injuries on her head was found inside her house in Saadatganj police station limits.

In another incident, the body of a 35-year-old labourer with injuries on his face and forehead was found inside his house in Thakurganj police station limits.

A few hours after the incidents, cops claimed to have cracked the woman’s murder after arresting her close relative. Police claimed that a personal dispute triggered the murder .

Additional deputy commissioner of police, west, Vikas Chandra Tripathi said the woman Ramakanti Pandey stayed with her two sons Arpit, 15, and Harshit, 12, and her husband’s younger brother Mukesh Pandey in Naveen Nagar locality of Saadatganj after the death of her husband Mohit Pandey around eight years ago. He said the incident took place sometime between 10 am and 2 pm when her two sons had gone to the school while her brother-in-law, who worked at a shoes showroom in Hazratganj, was out for work.

He said the incident was discovered when the woman’s children returned home and found the main entrance open at around 2.30pm. He said the entire house was ransacked while one room of the house was found locked from outside. He said the woman was found lying on the floor when Arpit opened it by breaking the lock . He said a locking brick was found placed on the woman’s face while two other bricks with stains were placed near the body.

He said it seems the killer had used the same bricks to commit the crime. “The bricks have been sealed and will be sent for the forensic examination,” he explained.

Tripathi said the woman’s two sons voiced suspicion about their maternal uncle Shiva, who had strained relations with her and even threatened her with dire consequences two days ago. He said, “Shiva confessed to his crime during interrogation. He conceded that he killed his sister in a fit of rage after heated arguments with her over a family issue.”

Father key suspect in labourer’s murder

In the Thakurganj incident, the victim Rajkumar, 35, who worked as a contractual labourer, was found dead inside his house in Baraura, Hussainbad . Police said the primary examination suggested that the assailant hit him multiple times on his face and forehead with a hammer found lying in the room.

Additional DCP Vikas Chandra Tripathi said Rajkumar, his elder brother Raju and parents Munni Lal and Laxmi lived in a rented house in Thakurganj while his wife Kanchan, who had strained relations with him, lived in Delhi with their two kids .

He said the incident came to light when the victim’s father rushed out of the house and informed neighbours that Rajkumar had suffered injury somehow and was lying on the floor. He said the incident took place when Rajkumar and his father were at home while his elder brother and mother, who also worked as contractual workers, were out .

The ASP said the victim’s father was the key suspect as he was giving contradictory statements. He said the suspect was being quizzed and soon the case would be cracked.
