Confidenti­al panel records statements of accused

LUCKNOW: A three member confidenti­al committee, probing the the role of Lucknow University’s professors and others in leak of law exam question papers, recorded statements of the parties concerned, including professors of law department and students who were accused in the scandal, on Saturday.

“The panel had summoned them in advance who appeared to record their statements. They were questioned regarding the papers’ leak for over four hours on the capus,” said a senior LU administra­tive official privy to the matter.

LU spokespers­on Durgesh Tripathi said, “The confidenti­al committee has been constitute­d to identify individual­s who are responsibl­e for the LU paper leaks. The details about the probe findings will be released once the panel submits its report.”

The paper leak came to light in December last year when a recording of conversati­on between the LU law professors and a student Richa Mishra went viral. In the recording, the professors can be heard discussing question paper of law subject.

An FIR was lodged against Richa Mishra, assistant professor of law department Ashok Kumar and an unidentifi­ed person regarding the matter by the university.

The case is still being investigat­ed by a police team. A team of STF was also directed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath to look into the matter. An internal committee was also formed by the university which hinted the paper leak in its report submitted in January.

The confidenti­al committee, comprising a retired professor, a retired judicial officer and a retired IPS officer, was formed after the varsity internal committee submitted its report and hinted about the paper leak.

AN INTERNAL COMMITTEE WAS ALSO FORMED BY THE UNIVERSITY WHICH HINTED THE PAPER LEAK IN ITS REPORT SUBMITTED IN JANUARY.
