LUCKNOW: Aman Bahadur, son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Shamsher Bahadur Singh, was arrested by the police on Friday in connection with the murder of an engineering dropout outside a guarded group housing society Alakhnanda Apartments in posh Gomti Nagar extension here on Thursday.

The police identified six others in the sensational murder of Prashant Singh, 25, and decided to also impose National Security Act (NSA) and Gangster Act against them “to send strong message to notorious elements,” said Lucknow commissioner of police (CP) Sujeet Pandey.

Pandey said Aman Bahadur was arrested after it was found that he was in constant touch with the assailants who executed the crime.

Shamsher Bahadur Singh was BSP MLA from Dharauhra assembly constituency of Lakhimpur Kheri district from 2012 and 2017.

His son is former law student of the private university on Faizabad road here where the deceased also pursued his engineering course for three years before dropping out last year.

Pandey said the six other accused were Arpan Shukla, Vimal Singh, Abdul Gani Khan, Abhishek Pandey, Anjani Yadav and Hardik Kumar and that three of them were students of the same private university where the deceased also studied till last year. Police are hunting for the six accused.

“Considering the audacity of the criminals, we have decided to also slap NSA as well as Gangster Act against all the executors and conspirators of the crime besides other charges of murder and criminal conspiracy,” Pandey said and added that “involvement of more people was likely to surface in further probe.”

Another senior cop associated with the probe of the case said the murder was a fall-out of a dispute between two groups of students and former students of the private university.

He said the two groups had a scuffle during a party at a restaurant in Safedabad on Lucknow-Barabanki border a few days ago and that was the trigger behind Thursday’s murder.

Prashant Singh was stabbed to death in broad daylight by the assailants at the entrance of a guarded group housing society named Alakhnanda Apartments, in posh Gomti Nagar extension, here on Thursday afternoon.

The victim had come in an SUV to meet a person known to him at the apartments when the assailants, waiting a few meters from the entrance gate, stabbed him to death when the SUV halted at the entrance barrier.
