POLICE ARRESTED THE VICTIM’S FATHER WHO ADMITTED DURING INTERROGATION THAT HE HAD HIT HER ON THE HEAD IN A FIT OF RAGE.

LUCKNOW: Four days after a family in Vikas Nagar projected the death of their 14-year-old daughter as a suicide, police on Friday arrested her father for murder.

On February 17, the family reported that their daughter died due to accidental fire from her father’s service pistol.

The father is a police constable posted in VIP duty.

However, the Class 10 student’s post mortem examination report differed with the family’s claim and ruled out death due to bullet injury.

On suspicion, police arrested the victim’s father Ved Pratap Singh who admitted during interrogation that he had hit her on the head in a fit of rage. “He beat her on February 17 morning and she was taken to a local hospital. After coming back from there, both had a heated argument over studies and in a fit of rage he assaulted her with a cricket bat.”

She was again taken to hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. While informing the police, the family cooked up the gunshot story, which was busted after the post mortem examination report, said SHO Vikasnagar Dheeraj Shukla.

DCP north Sarvashreshth Tripathi said, “The father was the main accused. We have also added Section 201 of the Indian penal code (IPC) for removing evidence in the case.”

“The crime scene was fabricated later to project it as a suicide case by placing the service pistol of her father and an empty bullet shell on the spot,” he said.

The medical report mentioned six wounds, including two lacerated wounds on the head and four contusions on hands and legs, suggesting assault and being battered to death.

“There were two lacerated injuries on head, which certainly were not caused by gunshot,” said a cop, adding, “This led to the suspicion that the family was lying about the case.”
