Govt identifying land in three tehsils of Lko
Defence minister monitoring roll-out of corridor in his constituency
LUCKNOW: The state government is identifying land in three tehsils of the state capital to roll out Defence Corridor project.
Already, the state government has notified six nodes Jhansi, Aligarh, Agra, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow for the project. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is the nodal agency to execute the project.
After directives from the state government, the district administration has started identifying government land in Sarojini Nagar, Mohanlalganj and Gosaiganj tehsils.
Rajnath Singh, local MP and union defence minister, is personally monitoring the roll-out of the corridor in his constituency.
Lucknow-based PTC Industries Limited is the first to set up its unit in the Lucknow node of the defence corridor. The unit has come up in Banthra area, Kanpur road, under Sarojini Nagar tehsil of the state capital with an investment of ₹225 crore.
“As Lucknow is also a part of the defence corridor project, the state government has issued instructions to identify land in three tehsils of the state capital,” said Satish Mahana, industrial development minister.
The PTC Industries Limited had signed an MOU with the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a government of India undertaking, in the recently concluded Defence Expo.
The PTC is a leading supplier of castings solutions, machined components and fabricated parts to companies across the world.
“Production in our first unit has already begun. We are manufacturing Titanium components for all three wings of the country’s armed forces,” said Sachin Agarwal, chairman, PTC Industries Limited.
“The first unit has come up with an investment of Rs 225 crore. The second unit of the project will come up in the next six to 12 months with an investment of ₹50 crore,” Agarwal added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Defence Corridor project for Uttar Pradesh on February 21, 2018, at the investors’ summit in the state capital.
In run up to this mega project, the Yogi government had organised 11th Defence Expo in the state capital from February 5-9.
In the expo, the state government had signed MOUs with 23 companies worth Rs 50,000 crore for investment in the project.
