‘Edu level in top institutes to go up’

VARANASI: Union human resource developmen­t minister Dr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank on Thursday said that the ministry was committed to upgrading the level of education in the top institutio­ns by providing excellent infrastruc­ture.

Nishank was at IIT-BHU, where he laid foundation of three new buildings, including Awas phase-II for the teachers, Morvi Hostel for the students and Annie Besant lecture complex at the IIT-BHU.

In his presence, IIT-BHU and All India Council for Technical Educationa­l (AICTE) signed an MOU for the induction programme.

Pokhariyal said that Kashi was the land of spirituali­ty, culture and knowledge.

“We are committed to taking the level of education to the new heights in our top (educationa­l) institutio­ns by providing excellent infrastruc­ture. We are continuous­ly working for it,” he added. He lauded IIT-BHU for imparting training to farmers and developing entreprene­urship among them. The training would help developmen­t of the agro industries with the support of national agricultur­e developmen­tal scheme. IIT-BHU director Prof Pramod Jain welcomed the minister.

CANDIDATES RAISE SLOGANS AGAINST BHU VC BEFORE HRD MIN

Alleging discrimina­tion against Hindi speaking aspirants in the interviews conducted for filling the posts of assistant professors, a group of aspirants raised slogans against BHU Vice Chancellor Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar in front of union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishak at IIT-BHU on Thursday.

They submitted a memorandum in this regard to him. Dr Pokhariyal was at IIT-BHU for laying foundation of a hostel.

Dr Karn Singh, one of the aspirants, said that they reached the IIT-BHU to submit a memorandum, regarding discrimina­tion against Hindi speaking aspirants during interviews, conducted for filling the posts of assistant professors in BHU. He said the security personnel, however, stopped them and asked them to go away.

They resisted against the move and started shouting slogans against the BHU Vice Chancellor, demanding a probe into the matter.
