Illumination and landscaping to change face of round-about
LUCKNOW: Supersonic fighter jet MiG 21 would soon find space at the busy Polytechnic crossing here. Installation of the fighter jet is a part of the round-about beautification drive which the district administration and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are going to launch shortly.
“As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), HAL would assist the district administration in beautifying city crossings. Installation of MIG 21 at the Polytechnic crossing is a part of it. The crossing would be developed on the defence theme,” said Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, additional district magistrate (ADM), trans-Gomti.
The other attractions at the crossing would include illumination, landscaping, plantation and so on. “Everything would be inspired by the defence theme,” Mishra added.
Officials said these features would add beauty to the crossing which had been grappling with traffic jams and encroachment till now. “Polytechnic crossing is a prime crossing and its beautification would certainly present a fairer picture of the city,” an official said.
Nine other prominent crossings would also be decked up on various themes under HAL’s CSR activity. Officials said the list of other crossings was yet to be finalised.
On Saturday, district magistrate Abhishek Prakash formed a committee of officials from Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), Nagar Nigam, Public Works Department (PWD) and CEO Projects, HAL to look after the entire beautification work programmed to change the face of the city.
Officials said the initiative would be linked with Smart City project that already has a programme to beautify 100 crossings of the city.
