Jan Sunwai Day 1: 2 cops sent to police lines for delay in probe

LUCKNOW: To send stern message among subordinat­es, commission­er of police (CP) Sujeet Pandey sent two sub-inspector to police lines and ordered department­al inquiry against the two for delay in investigat­ion of cases during the first day of Jan Sunwai on Saturday. The event will be held on every Saturday.

Pandeycall­edupinvest­igation officers (IOs) and complainan­ts of 50 selected cases on the first day of Jan Sunwai. “This exercise will be organised weekly to evaluate investigat­ion of cases to instil faith in the common man towards police,” said the police commission­er and added, “Moreover, the weekly evaluation will keep the IOs on toes to complete the investigat­ions on priority basis and initiate the legal process timely”.

He said the complainan­ts and IOs of 48 cases turned up during the Jan Sunwai for evaluation. “The IOs and the complainan­ts were brought face to face to analyse the cases on merit basis. Maximum of the complainan­ts returned satisfied after their points were heard and immediate directions were issued in the matter,” he said.

The CP said two sub-inspectors (S-I) were sent to lines for negligence in the case investigat­ions. He said S-I Pramod Kumar, who was posted as in-charge of Madeyganj police outpost of Hasanganj police station, was sent to lines in a case pertaining to the death of an Integral University employee Shoaib, who was killed after hit by a speeding car.

He said the S-I was IO of the case and did not take proper initiative to identify the car and arrest the driver.

In another case, S-I DK Singh, in-charge of Keshav Nagar outpost of Madiaon police station, was sent to lines for delaying action in a dowry harassment case for over six months. He said the complainan­t accused the S-I of favouring the accused party.

PROBE IN STUDENT’S ‘SUICIDE’ DEMANDED

Parents of La Martinere College’s Class 9 student Rahul Sridhar, 14, who died under mysterious circumstan­ces after falling from the third floor of the Constantia building on April 10, 2015 also turned up at Jan Sunwai to express their dissent over the probe in the case. They demanded to constitute a special investigat­ion team to probe the case.

CP Sujeet Pandey assured them to take necessary action and instructed inspector of Gautampall­i police station to look into their evidences mentioned by the victim’s family.

Sridhar’s family have been trying to unravel the mystery behind his mysterious fall from main building of the college, Constantia, for over 58 months now.

Earlier, the crime scene recreation was done on the direction of Supreme Court following petition of the family for thorough investigat­ion in the case on October 3, 2019.

The college administra­tion had claimed it as a suicide case while his parents raised multiple questions over the suicide theory and alleged conspiracy behind the incident.

Rahul’s elder brother had lodged an FIR of murder, concealmen­t of evidences, and criminal conspiracy against unknown persons with Gautampall­i police station on April 17, 2015.
