Serial offender kills wife for not visiting him in jail

MUMBAI: A 32-year-old serial offender, who was out on bail, has been arrested on charges of killing his wife suspecting adultery, police said on Monday.

The accused, Mohammed Naseem Khalil Ansari, is facing charges in 10 cases of robbery and theft. Ansari has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and has been remanded in police custody till Thursday for the murder of his wife, Yasmeen Banu Ansari, the police said.

Last Friday, Ansari was released on bail from Arthur Road Jail, where he was serving time for a theft case.

He went to Yasmeen’s place in Sewree and found her with another man. Ansari suspected Yasmeen of being adulterous and bludgeoned her to death between midnight and 12:30 .a.m. on Saturday and

A Sewree resident found her body in a public toilet along the eastern freeway at Bombay Port Trust (BPT) toll plaza at 12:55 a.m.

Rashmi Karandikar, deputy commission­er of police, said, “the Sewree resident informed us that Ansari suspected Yasmeen of being adulterous and also nursed a grouse against her since she neither visited him at the jail nor attended any of the court hearings.” “Ansari was caught near Byculla vegetable market on Saturday,” said Gajanan Kurade, senior police inspector, Sewree police station.

“Ansari was arrested within four hours of the incident while he was about to flee to Ajmer to evade arrest,” said Kiran Mandare, sub-inspector, Sewree police station.
