Ex-UP minister sentenced to five years in jail

RUDRAPUR: Former minister of Uttar Pradesh Prem Prakash Singh, a resident of Shaktifarm of US Nagar, was sentenced to 5 years in jail in a land grabbing case on Monday, an official said.

Prabhawati, the wife of Late Ram Avadh, a freedom fighter and retired police officer, had lodged a land grabbing case in Rudrapur police station against Prem Prakash Singh and two others - Navnath and Prem Narayan - in 2014 that Prem Prakash Singh and two his two aide have grabbed her land by preparing a forged will.

She had alleged that Ram Avadh had 32.50 acres land in Bagwala village of Rudrapur. Singh had grabbed 15 acres land by preparing a fake will in his committee Maa Shakti Peeth Samiti. Police added six more persons in the case after investigat­ion. They were the former minister’s wife Manjulata Singh, son Shivvardha­n Singh, daughter-in-law Nidhi Singh, ex-district government counsel SB Singh, his wife Geeta Singh and daughter-in-law Shikha Singh.

Sidhharth Srivastava, counsel of Prabhawati, said, “After trial, the civil judge (senior division) sentenced Prem Prakash Singh to 5 years in jail on Monday. While others were sentenced 2 to 5 years but court granted interim bail to them.” Singh was sent to jail later. Singh was a minister when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. He was elected MLA from Barahaj seat in Deoria district of UP.
