Class 5 girl becomes principal for a day
LUCKNOW: Ahead of International Women’s Day, a girl of class, Pinky Patel was made principal for a day. She took charge from the regular principal, Ravindra Kumar while a few other students assisted her in discharging duties, at a primary school at Bhitari, Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi, on Friday.
“It was a dream come true to become a principal. I went inside his room in school uniform and spent several hours in his room. To be seated on principal’s sir chair was a different feeling. It motivated me and gave that extra sense of responsibility,” said Pinky.
Soon after taking the charge she constituted a student bank in the school so that students who forget to bring their stationery like pencil, eraser and sharpener may borrow it from the student bank to continue uninterrupted studies.
Principal Ravindra Kumar said it was good atmosphere in the school campus.
“I saw every student discussing it. Later while going home, I heard villagers talking about it. The idea worked. It will not only keep Pinky motivated but will inspire many other students in our school,” he said.
The school will hold similar practice on a monthly basis from the next session so that more students can be covered.
The criteria of selection of the principal will include academic performance, attendance and cleanliness. Students of Bal Sansad will also be considered as they are important members of the school, he said.
“Student bank will be run by students and is meant to meet their stationery requirements. The bank will have a set of 20 pencils, erasers, sharpener and few reading books. It will be kept in a cupboard in the principal’s room,” Pinky said.
Earlier, when students forget to bring stationery, they used to go home to bring it, and in the process, often missed the class. But now they can borrow the same at zero interest for a day, she said.
However, while going home after the school gets over, they are required to deposit the same back in the ‘student bank’, which is managed by students, said Kumar.
