FIR against coronavirus positive woman’s father
Though she was at home, the Agra resident hid his daughter’s illness and misled the health dept team visiting his house, saying she had taken a train to Delhi
AGRA : A case was registered on Sunday against the father of a coronavirus positive woman of the city for concealing his daughter’s illness and misleading the health department officials who had reached his house to get his daughter admitted to the isolation ward in SN Medical College and Hospital here.
District magistrate Prabhu N Singh recommended the FIR against the woman’s father who misled the team of doctors.
The woman who lives in Agra Cantonment railway colony had recently travelled to Italy for her honeymoon. After the couple returned, her husband had tested positive for the virus in Bengaluru while she returned to her family here.
The case was registered under Section 269 (unlawfully or negligently doing something which is likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life) and Section 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease danger¬ous to life) of the Indian Penal Code at Sadar Bazar police station here.
The complaint was lodged by Dr Vinay Kumar, additional chief medical officer (ACMO) who said that 12 samples were collected and sent to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University for coronavirus test on Thursday.
“Eleven of these were found negative while the sample of a woman was suspected because her techie husband had already tested positive and was undergoing treatment in Bengaluru. So the woman was in highly suspected category,” said the complainant in his FIR.
When the ACMO and additional city magistrate Vinod
Joshi reached the woman’s house on Friday, her father (accused) said that his daughter had gone to Delhi by Mangla Express and would fly to Bengaluru.
The health officials were shocked to find that a highly suspected case, tested positive in Aligarh, was travelling by train. Agra district magistrate Prabhu N Singh was informed who began action to trace the woman.
‘The father of the coronavirus positive woman caused a lot of trouble for the administration and health department through false and misleading information about his daughter’s departure to Delhi. Later, the woman patient was found in the house, confirming the misdeed of her father,” the complainant said in FIR lodged.
The woman’s sample was sent for reconfirmation to the King George’s Medical University Lucknow and tested positive on Sunday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Agra Babloo Kumar said that required legal action would be undertaken in the case. He said citizens should act responsibly in such a scenario and not conceal facts about an illness which may infect others. “The accused man and his other family members have been placed under home quarantine as they were in close contact with the corona virus positive woman,” he added.
