SRINAGAR: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists and one Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist were killed in an encounter with security forces on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

The encounter was triggered in Anantnag’s Watarigam area after a team of the Jammu & Kashmir police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area following a tip-off about the presence of the terrorists.

Jammu & Kashmir police spokesman Manoj Kumar said that during the operation, the terrorists fired at the search party. “The fire was retaliated leading to the encounter in which four terrorists were killed,” he said.

The four were identified as Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, Omar Ameen Bhat, and Sajad Ahmed Bhat of the LeT and HM’s Gulzar Ahmed Bhat.

“Two AK-47 rifles, two pistols, ammunition, and other incriminating materials have been recovered from the encounter site,” Kumar said. He said Muzzafar Ahmed Bhat, an LeT district commander, was wanted in seven cases since 2017.

On Friday, LeT terrorist Mudasir Ahmad Bhat was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Sopore. He had joined militancy around seven days before his death, Kumar said.
