UP TALLY RISES TO 38

LUCKNOW : The number of coronaviru­s positive cases rose to 38 in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday after a 33-year-old Pilibhit man tested positive for the virus. This was the second case in Pilibhit that was a result of contact transmissi­on.

The man is a relative of the woman, who had recently returned after performing ‘umrah’ (religious pilgrimage) at Mecca in Saudi Arabia. She had tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Till now 11 patients -Agra (7), Lucknow (1), Ghaziabad (2) and Noida (1) – have recovered.

“The woman was part of a 37-member group that had gone to perform the pilgrimage. She has two sons, the elder one is married and works in Haryana while the younger one (who has tested positive) lives with her and is pursuing B Ed,” said an administra­tion official.

This man has no travel history in the past four years. Besides him, the wife of his older brother and an ANM (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery) worker also lives on rent in the same house, the official said. All the occupants have been home quarantine­d for 14 days as a precaution­ary measure, he said.

The health department has intensifie­d surveillan­ce of travellers in state and all district units have been asked to increase the strength of their teams. In the past 24-hours 9,520 travellers from corona affected countries were identified in the state and put under monitoring by the health department.

On Monday the number of such travellers was 8,950 and in a day it reached to over 18,000. On Wednesday it touched 28406.

In all 1,830 samples have been tested in the state and positive cases have been reported from Agra (8), Ghaziabad (3), Noida (11), Lucknow (8), LakhimpurK­heri (1), Pilibhit (2), Kanpur (1), Moradabad (1), Shamli (1), Jaunpur (1) and Varanasi (1). Till now 11 patients -- Agra (7), Lucknow (1), Ghaziabad (2) and Noida (1) – have recovered.
