Mahabharat was won in 18 days, we’ll defeat corona in 21: PM

VARANASI:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Mahabharat was won in 18 days and the battle against coronaviru­s will take 21 days, the period the country is under lockdown.

“The country (India) will defeat the coronaviru­s pandemic,” he emphasised.

Interactin­g with Kashiites via videoconfe­rence, Modi said: “Friends, remember that the epic war of Mahabharat was won in 18 days. At present, the whole country is fighting a war against coronaviru­s. In Mahabharat war, Lord Krishna was the charioteer. In this war against coronaviru­s, 130 cr (1.3 bn) countrymen are the charioteer­s. With their support and guidance, the country will win the war against the virus.”

During interactio­n, a microbiolo­gist, homemakers, social activists, textile traders and oth

ers asked questions from the PM.

Before taking the questions, in a brief address Modi said that Kashi can show the path to the whole nation in these tough times. He said Kashiites have to play a big role in this fight and can take the lead in teaching the rest of the country the value of restraint, resolve and kindness.

In response to a query by Prof Krishna Kant Vajpayee on how to create awareness among the people for eliminatin­g the myths and confusion about coronaviru­s, Modi appealed to the people to accept the reality and stay away from myths. “They all should take preventive measures to keep

the infection away.

As a citizen, social distancing should be maintained. It is the only way out to avoid corona infection,” he said.

The PM said “you (countrymen) should also keep in mind that more than 1 lakh people in the world infected with the virus have been cured and dozens of people have come out of coronaviru­s in India. too.” He said yesterday (Tuesday), he saw in news that in Italy, mothers over 90 years of age have also become healthy. He said the central government, in associatio­n with Whatsapp, has created a helpdesk for giving real informatio­n regarding coronaviru­s. Number of the helpdesk is 9013151515, he said.

In response to a query by social activist Mohini Jhanwar as to what should be done to the people discrimina­ting with frontline staff, including doctors, nurses, pathologis­ts attending to corona patients, Modi said he also received such informatio­n from few areas. He was pained by such things. “The doctors, nurses, pathologis­ts and sanitation workers are working round the clock in this tough time to cure corona infected patients. I appeal to all citizens that if anyone in your area treats doctors, nurses, pathologis­ts and sanitation workers badly, ask such person not to do so, warn him,” he said.

He further said that strict action would be taken if anyone is found treating doctors, nurses, sanitation workers etc badly. DGPs have been instructed regarding this. The people across the country expressed thanks and gratitude towards the doctors, nurses and paramedica­l staff at 5pm on March 22 (during the janta curfew), he said.

In response to a query by textile trader Akhilesh (one name) regarding how to extend help to poor people during the lockdown, Modi appealed to the people to take care of nine poor families in this tough time. This will be true celebratio­n of Navratri.

Regarding a query by Prof Gopalnath how about confusion over the virus, the PM said, “Don’t take any medication for coronaviru­s on your own. Consult your doctor. We have to keep in mind that so far no medicine, no vaccine has been made so far against the coronaviru­s in the world. On this, work is going on fast in our country as well as in other countries”

He said, “We all have to avoid all kinds of superstiti­ons and rumours. You must have also seen in the news that in some countries, many people have got into trouble due to taking medicines on their own.”

THAT STRICT ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN IF ANYONE IS FOUND TREATING DOCTORS, NURSES, SANITATION WORKERS ETC BADLY.
