Cops book over 6K for violating lockdown protocol

LUCKNOW: The state police on Wednesday registered as many as 2,089 FIRs against over 6,000 people for violating lockdown protocol.

They were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 188 for disobeying the government order across the state.

Besides, 3,679 vehicles were seized during checking at the police barriers put up to restrict their movement.

A senior police official at the DGP headquarte­rs said the police merely registered 350 FIRs in the first two days of lockdown on Monday and Tuesday but have to take tough action on the third day as people were seen frequently violating the protocol and found moving on roads unnecessar­ily.

He said the vehicular movement were restricted by putting up 6,044 barriers in 75 districts of the state. He said over 2 lakh vehicles were checked at the barriers during which 3,679 vehicles were seized.

Moreover, 49,074 commuters were issued challan and a sum of over Rs 1 crore (₹ 10.1 million) was collected as fine, he added.

Earlier, DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthy issued directives for strict enforcemen­t of lockdown protocol on Tuesday night. The DGP directed to intensify patrolling on main roads as well as on interior roads to restrict people coming out on roads.

UP 112 RECEIVES OVER 9000 CALLS IN 24 HRS

Lucknow: As many as 3,200 people made a call to 112 — state police emergency response centre — to lodge complaints of crowd gathering in past 24 hours.

Additional director general (ADG), UP 112, Asim Arun said the UP 112 call centre received over 9,000 calls to seek help related to coronaviru­s fear – like complainin­g about coronaviru­s suspects, medical assistance, vehicular movement issue and other things. He said at least 3,200 calls were related to public gathering while 2,400 calls were related to suspects of coronaviru­s infected persons and five calls of escaping of coronaviru­s infected people.

Interestin­gly, 1,300 people took help of UP 112 for delivery of groceries while 368 people were helped by dropping them at suitable place in absence of public transport movement restricted on roads.
