NOW, 24X7 FEVER CLINIC AT KGMU

-

LUCKNOW: The fever clinic at the King George’s Medical University is being converted into a 24 X 7 facility from its present 8-hour schedule.

“The patient load with fever and assumptions about coronavirus is such that about 250 patients came to us in the past two days. The decision has now been taken to shift the fever clinic from the new OPD building to the neurology department, all wards of which have been vacated,” said Dr NS Verma, senior faculty and in charge of the fever clinic.

Patients are coming up with weird questions, making the job of doctors tough. “One person had eaten in a restaurant. Now he wants to know if he will catch coronavirus infection. Another saw a place in West Asia in his dream and turned up at the fever clinic,” said Dr Verma.

All patients coming to the clinic are first screened by a thermal scanner and then allowed entry into the OPD.

The clinic was running in room number 102 and 106 of the new OPD building. “From Thursday 8 AM, the fever clinic will be run in the neurology department. Round the clock duty has been assigned to senior faculty on rotation along with the resident doctors to screen and advise patients,” said Dr Manish Bajpayee, OPD in charge. A staff member will be deployed to tell patients about the new location of the fever clinic.

“The new location is closer to the lab where suspected patients are supposed to give samples and also the isolation facility for cases that test positive,” said Dr Ved Prakash, HoD pulmonary and critical care medicine at KGMU, which at present has 7 positive cases under treatment.
