PRAYAGRAJ: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to step up its support to the authorities and common people in the fight against COVID-19 outbreak.

The Sangh has prepared locallevel plans and also started distributing food packets, masks and soaps among the marginalised as well as old and infirm people, informed Sangh office bearers. The RSS volunteers including doctors, engineers, lawyers and traders etc are working under an emergency management committee of the Sangh, set up at the district level. Similarly, coordination committees have been constituted under it for different areas as the sayamsevaks have been given specific duties.

They have been asked to work strictly in coordination with the district officials, they added.

“This initiative is being implemented across the state in coordination with the district administrative officials,” shared Saurabh Srivsatava, sampark pramukh of RSS’s Prayagraj Vibhag.

He said that Prayagraj Vibhag in RSS comprises of five districts of trans-Ganga, trans-Yamuna, Prayag Uttar and Prayag Dakshin besides Kaushambi which in total have around 5 lakh sayamsevaks, who would pitch in with their support.

In the past too, RSS has extended the helping hand in times of natural calamities like earthquakes and floods besides major train mishaps etc.

“An emergency management committee has been set up at the Vibhag level here to coordinate work of RSS volunteers, who have offered help 24x7 in these tough times for anything that the officials want. Under this committee, four separate five-member coordination committees have been set up to oversee the work in the five different regions,” he added.

Srivastava said that each of these five regions had been further

divided into sub-sections with each section catering to the need of 1 lakh residents and further into Basti level mini-sections. “For example, Prayag city has been divided into 29 sub sections and 290 bastis,” he added.

To start off, select volunteers have been asked to identify families with the old and sick members, who require maximum help in terms of food, medicines and other essentials in their respective localities and ensure support. They have also been asked to offer tea and snacks to security personnel, sanitation staff etc between 6am and 7am as well as from 6pm to 7pm every day in their localities, shared Ashok Mehta, an RSS functionary, who has been made the head of the emergency management committee.

He said that volunteers had also been asked to identify areas where sanitation workers were failing to visit or where essential items were not available.

“All volunteers have been asked to keep their mobile phones on so that they can be easily contacted but have been asked to limit their movement to 100 metres from their homes and that too when necessary,” he added.
