17 new corona cases, 8 in Meerut alone; UP total 82

LUCKNOW/MEERUT/AGRA: Seventeen new coronaviru­s positive cases, eight in Meerut alone, were reported in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 82.

The eight new coronaviru­s positive persons had come in contact with a Covid 19 patient. With the eight new cases, the number of corona positive persons in Meerut rose to 13.

Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Raj Kumar confirmed that eight more persons tested positive for the virus in a Meerut lab on Sunday. “These persons were admitted in isolation ward of the medical college here on Saturday.”

Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Raj Kumar confirmed that eight more persons tested positive for the virus in a Meerut lab on Sunday. “These persons were admitted in isolation ward of the medical college here on Saturday after tracing the contact history of a person, who arrived here on March 18 from Amravati, Maharashtr­a, and he tested positive on March 27.

The team of health department admitted his family members, neighbours and a few of those who came in his contact. His wife and three brothers-in-law tested positive on Saturday and eight others tested positive on Sunday.

The CMO said that testing of a few other persons was under process and their report will be confirmed on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, health teams have been deputed to identify more persons who came in contact with these infected persons so that they could be separated from people in order to contain the virus.

Two workers in Noida, who travelled to their native place in Bulandshah­r and Bareilly, tested positive for coronaviru­s. These were the first positive cases in the respective districts. The other districts which reported positive cases during the day were Ghaziabad (two) and Noida (4) and Agra one.

With the new case, the Agra total rose to 11. The latest patient is from a village on outskirts of Agra . He had returned from New Castle University in United Kingdom and reached Agra on March 18.The Bulandshah­r man is an employee in a Noida factory, while the man who tested positive in Bareilly works in a Noida fire extinguish­er company. The fire extinguish­er factory in Noida had at least 19 of its workers testing positive till now. Noida till now reported 31 cases. Health officials in Bulandshah­r have been put on the task to prepare a list of those who came in contact with the man who tested positive on Sunday. In all 14 patients were declared as treated in state. The health department has launched a Covid-19 helpline 1800180514­5.
