Migrant influx continues in Lucknow
Workers from Delhi reached Lucknow, de-boarded at Singar Nagar Metro station crossing, from where they looked to board buses for their native districts
LUCKNOW: Hundreds of migrant workers from New Delhi, who have been coming to Lucknow since last two days, continued to reach here on Sunday also.
Jam-packed buses ferrying migrant workers from the Interstate Bus Terminal, Anand Vihar, New Delhi, started reaching Lucknow early morning, said officials.
They were de-boarded at Singar Nagar Metro station crossing, from where they hope to board buses for their native districts such as Faizabad, Basti, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Ballia, Mau, Gonda, Sultanpur, Kanpur, Bahraich and Allahabad among other destinations.
To avoid chaos at Charbagh and Alambagh bus stations, the Lucknow administration stopped all buses at the Singar Nagar Metro station crossing (also known as Awadh Hospital crossing). “The decision to not allow buses to enter the city was taken after first 16 buses reached Charbagh bus stand and led to some chaos,” said an official.
With prior information of migrant workers arriving in Lucknow in thousands, the district administration was well prepared on Sunday to tackle the situation.
Police personnel, roadways and district administration officials were present at the crossing to keep everything in order. As a precautionary measure, the entire stretch from Chandan Nagar crossing to Singar Nagar Metro station crossing was blocked for all vehicular movement.
As migrants kept arriving, the Lucknow administration kept on deploying buses to ferry people to their destinations.
As there was continuous flow of migrant workers, the Lucknow administration engaged private buses and trucks also in addition to roadways buses for ferrying people stranded in the state capital. Buses of the SR Global School, Sitapur road, were also engaged.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath also arrived at the Singar Nagar crossing at around 2pm to review arrangements.
District magistrate (DM) Abhishek Prakash also reached there to ensure buses keep leaving at regular intervals.
Regular announcements on movement of buses were being through public address systems making it easy for workers to board them.
Good Samaritans distributed food packets, biscuits and water bottles to those leaving for their destinations. People arrived in their four-wheelers with food packets and water bottles to make things a bit easy for migrant workers arriving from New Delhi.
