LUCKNOW: The process to get beds from private sector hospitals for Covid-19 cases has started.

A meeting was held between officials of the state health department and representatives of medical associations to finalise the modalities.

A committee was also formed that would give the agreement final shape in two days, said Dr Anoop Agrawal, secretary of the UP Orthopaedic Association.

Hospitals willing to facilitate admission of corona patients need to share data of beds in their general and private wards and facility of ventilator. This data will be compiled by the state health department.

“Once the agreement is signed between the health department and hospital, process for training of staff and upgrading the facility will begin. The doctors, nurses and all other hospital staff will be trained by the department experts,” said Dr Agrawal.

“If a hospital has 20 beds and

can share 5 for isolation only five will be listed by the health department and those willing to hand over the entire hospital/ beds can do so,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of the Association of International Doctors (AID).

“We have offers from private hospitals for making dedicated corona hospitals and we are now processing the package,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, principal secretary, health. He informed that in government establishments, level one corona hospitals had been made at community health centres across 75 districts and level two hospitals in

medical colleges while the level three hospitals were at KGMU, PGI, BRD Medical College Gorakhpur and Meerut Medical College.

In the government sector in the state, 246 CHCs/corona hospitals have been set up that have 5026 isolation beds and 6044 quarantine beds for patients. Also 750 ventilator supported beds have been reserved for coronavirus patients.

Private sector hospitals will be apart from these hospitals. How many beds come up from private sector will be clear once the agreement is signed by different hospitals.
