LUCKNOW:Final year engineering student, Gaurav, is home for past eight days, ever since the Janata Curfew was put into place. He stepped out twice to buy essentials like vegetables, grocery items and medicines for his mother.

After stating inside for eight days, this 21-year-old is now beginning to sulk. Anxiety is creeping in, and is not the only one going through this.

There are several others like him who are increasingly getting restless as they are unable to venture out of the house, even for basics like jogging, swimming or even going to gym.

Nehashree Srivastav, an assistant professor of psychology at National PG College says it is very important to know how to remain positive during this lockdown, even though it varies from person to person, and from one age group to another, everybody must find away to keep their mind in good health.

“Self management is the need

of the hour. My advice to people is to not discuss too much of COVID-19 outbreak with others. Instead they should listen to music and develop other positive hobbies like reading, gardening, yoga, singing, dancing, painting, etc will help a great deal,” she said.

Manini Srivastava, assistant professor at psychology department of Lucknow University says, “This indefinite isolation coupled with panic over scarce resources, capsized travel plans, information overload could be a recipe for unchecked anxiety and depression. In this newfound time, why not do something special. Pick up a new book, pen down your thoughts, create blogs, care for elderly, play with kids, do everything which you were not able to do due to busy routine.”

Manju Agrawal, dean student welfare and professor of psychology at Amity University says there are ways one can make good use of lockdown period for constructive work. “Some people are digging out their old photographs and arranging them in albums sorting them for printing. The entire family can be involved in this and sharing old memories with children and new members, enjoying together.”
