10 migrant workers test positive in Siddharthn­agar

GORAKHPUR: With Siddharthn­agar reporting 10 fresh cases, the number of corona cases in the district rose to 12 while adjoining Kushinagar district lost its green zone tag with its first positive case on Tuesday, officials said.

Those testing positive are among those migrant workers who had come to the district from other places where they were working between April 20 and 27 and were subsequent­ly placed under quarantine.

Giving this informatio­n, district magistrate Siddharthn­agar Deepak Meena said, “Samples of all 76 people kept at Mahamaya IT College quarantine centre in Bansi and of

134 people kept at Ganga Public School quarantine centre in Naugarh were sent to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, Gorakhpur on Sunday. Of them, 10 tested positive and were shifted to Birdpur level hospital.”

“Those who tested positive had come from Delhi, Kaushambi and Mumbai last month,” he added.

Earlier, a 24-year-old man of Bansi, who came from Kaushambi, and 20-year-old man who had come from Mumbai were found positive. They are under treatment at Sand Kabir Nagar district.

Meanwhile in Kushinagar district, a 16-year-old girl of Hata Kotwali area was found positive on Tuesday morning. She is the first Covid-19 case from Kushinagar. The girl, who studies in Kanpur, came from there with her relative on April 30.

On May 2, villagers informed health department of it and after thermal screening she was quarantine­d at Sevarahi community health centre isolation ward.

On Tuesday, she was found positive in the test report of BRD Medical College.

DM, Kushinagar, Bhupendra S Chowdhary said the entire family of the girl was quarantine­d Sevarahi community health centre and her relative with whom she came from Kanpur had also been quarantine­d along 6 members of his family. The administra­tion has also quarantine­d 16 other contacts of the girl in Kushinagar.
