LUCKNOW : In a tragic incident a three-year-old girl and her twoyear-old brother were left abandoned on the road when their parents died after they were hit by a speeding vehicle on Shaheed Path near Golf City on Wednesday midnight. The family was pedalling down to Bemetra district of Chhattisgarh from Lucknow, police said.

The deceased were identified as Krishna Sahu, 40, a migrant worker and his wife Pramila Sahu, 38. The kids were initially treated at the private hospital in Thakurganj and later shifted to a Chowk hospital. He said the boy is completely well but the doctors have diagnosed a minor fracture in the girl’s skull so she has been admitted at a private hospital on Sitapur road. Her uncle is getting her treated with help of a group of local leaders and social workers, said additional director general (ADG), UP-112, Asim Arun.

The children were lying on road profusely bleeding when a passer-by spotted them and informed UP112, the state integrated emergency response centre. A group of UP-112 police response vehicles (PRV) personnel came forward for their helpby not only rushing them to hospital for treatment but also handed ₹10,000 to their uncle Ram Kumar Sahu as an immediate financial relief to fulfil requirements of the two kids admitted at a city hospital.

This is not the first incident that UP-112 personnel have provided financial assistance to the needy. Till now they have provided monitory help to nearly 104 people in different districts across the state from the self-generated fund collected on March 27. “We planned to contribute voluntarily to raise a fund of UP-112 after coming to known that our PRV personnel-mainly sub-inspector and constable ranks-are spending from their pockets to help out people,” ADG said. “Some officers of 112, some IPS officers and some family members quickly contributed to putting together 112 Rahat Fund. Around ₹ 8.5 lakh was collected voluntarily for the fund within 24 hours,” he said.

ADG said that this fund is used to help people with medicines, food, hospital requirements or any other essential things. It solely depends on the discretion and intention of PRV personnel analysing necessity and requirement on the ground. He said the PRV personnel simply helps needy from their pockets and later get it reimbursed from the fund by sending the bills and details to the UP-112 headquarters through WhatsApp.

“We offer our ground staff to reimburse their expenditure. If they agree, we transfer the money online while many say they want to have the satisfaction of having done the charity themselves,” he emphasised.

“Our PRV personnel constable Arvind Kumar Yadav, who initiated to give them financial aid, is keeping a tab about the treatment of children,” he added.

THE DECEASED WERE IDENTIFIED AS KRISHNA SAHU, 40, A MIGRANT WORKER AND HIS WIFE PRAMILA SAHU, 38
