Motherhood has brought some drastic changes in wrestler Geeta Phogat’s life, who had to put professional sports on the backburner after giving birth to her son, Arjun, in December last year. On Mother’s Day, she shares how managing weight gain was one thing, but the real pain was to see her child not being able to breastfeed.

“Pregnancy ke baad, I gained 25kg. So, when Arjun turned four-and-a-half months old, I resumed my workout. Usi time wo achhe se feed nahi le paa raha tha, toh physiotherapist ne salah di ki abhi heavy exercises mat karo. My kid is very small and uski health meri health se zyada important hai,” Phogat says.

And the lockdown posed another challenge for this new mum. “Maine kharid ke toh rakhe they diaper aur baby oil magar kam pad gaye. Ab jake online delivery start hua toh fir se mangva rahe hain (laughs),” says Phogat, adding how her husband, wrestler Pawan Kumar, has been a doting father.

“Pawan har tareeke se help karte hain... aur main bhi ye phase enjoy kar rahi hun. Jab baby ko muskurate hue dekhti hun toh apaar santushti aur sukoon milta hai,” she shares.

Asked if she would like Dangal 2 to represent the motherhood struggles of a sportsperson, she agrees, and says, “Aamir Khan ne kafi achhe se mere father ka role nibhaya, and husband ka role kaun kar sakta hai batana mushkil hai. But mere role mein Deepika Padukone ya Kangana Ranaut kafi sahi rahengi.”
