LUCKNOW: Five more people, including a woman, tested positive for the coronavirus in the state capital on Sunday and 24 patients were discharged during the day.

The fresh cases are from Nazarbagh Sabzi Mandi area. They are contacts of the vegetable wholesaler who tested positive on May 3. This vegetable seller was a contact of another vegetable vendor who had tested positive on April 29.

Among those discharged, 16 patients, including an eightmonth-old girl, are from Lucknow. They are residents of IIM Road, Mahotsavnagar and Qaiserbagh Sabzi Mandi areas. The others are Delhi residents who were under treatment in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, Narhi residents heaved a sigh of relief after about 30 samples taken from the area tested negative. “We had taken utmost precaution and all residents cooperated to maintain social distance,” said Babloo, a resident and social worker.

“Containment exercise and quick response has reduced the number of fresh cases coming up in Lucknow,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla secretary general of the Association of International Doctors (AID).

A hospital in Rajendra Nagar area was closed for sanitisation after a woman who visited there tested positive at a private pathology. She was advised the test by a doctor when she came for follow-up check-up for availing IVF facility.
